Todo sobre mi madre (1999) - Pedro Almodóvar


All About My Mother (Spanish: Todo sobre mi madre) is a 1999 film written and directed by the Spanish auteur Pedro Almodóvar. The film deals with complex issues such as AIDS, transvestitism, sexual identity, gender, religion, faith, and existentialism; the characters are presented in a straightforward and mostly unromanticized and non-judgemental fashion but with an edge of dark humour.

La Mala educación (2004) - Pedro Almodóvar


Bad Education (Spanish: La mala educación) is a 2004 film by Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar about two reunited childhood friends (and lovers) in the vein of an Alfred Hitchcock murder mystery. Sexual abuse by Catholic priests, transsexuality, drug abuse, and a metafiction are also important themes and devices in the plot. Thus, it is rated NC-17 by the MPAA.

Habla Con Ella (2002) - Pedro Almodóvar


Talk to Her (Spanish: Hable con ella) is a 2002 film written and directed by the Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar, starring Javier Cámara, Darío Grandinetti, Leonor Watling, Geraldine Chaplin and Rosario Flores. It won the 2002 Academy Award for Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen and the 2003 Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Mar Dentro (2004) - Alejandro Amenábar


Mar adentro (English title: The Sea Inside) is a 2004 film by the Spanish director Alejandro Amenábar. It is based on real-life events, and stars Javier Bardem as Ramón Sampedro, a Galician fisherman left quadriplegic after a diving accident who fought a 28-year campaign in support of euthanasia and his right to end his own life. "Mar Adentro" has also been praised for its realistic and accurate display of the Galician people, languages and landscape.  

Abre los Ojos (1997) - Alejandro Amenábar


Abre los ojos (Open Your Eyes) is a 1997 film directed by Alejandro Amenábar and written by him and Mateo Gil. It stars Eduardo Noriega as César, a successful and handsome young man in Madrid who becomes severely disfigured in an automobile crash and then undergoes some disorienting experiences. The film also stars Penélope Cruz as Sofía, Najwa Nimri as Nuria (the girl who causes the automobile crash that disfigures César), Fele Martínez as César's friend Pelayo, and Chete Lera as Antonio, a psychiatrist who becomes something of a father figure to César.

Vicente Aranda is a Spanish film director, screenwriter and producer born in Barcelona on 9 November 1926. Due to his refined and personal style, he is one of the most renowned Spanish filmmakers. He started as a founded member of the Barcelona School of Film and became known for bringing contemporary Spanish novels to life on the big screen. Aranda is famous for exploring difficult social issues and variations on the theme of desire that employs the codes of melodrama.
